JUST THREE BERTHS AVAILABLE ON ALL OF 2006 EXPEDITIONS!
Yes, we have three berths left on our final leg of the season, Leg 8-2006.

Leg 8 starts in Oban on the spectacular NW coast of Scotland, transits the Caledonian Canal which bisects the Scottish Highlands, includes passages to the Orkney Islands, a challenging North Sea crossing to southern Norway, coast hopping along Norway followed by a crossing to Sweden's NW coast. If you are keen for some heavy weather experience, difficult and challenging navigating and some great sailing, this might be the leg for you! For details, read our logs from Leg 8 - 2000 when we sailed the identical route.

If you have questions, contact us: [email protected] or call Tracy in our office: 360-378-6131.

MAHINA TIARE IS SPORTING A NEW RADAR

The night after our 45 knot blow off Southern Oregon our radar stopped working. Bruno went through the troubleshooting guide and the message that it was flashing indicated either a dropped magnet or a failed reed switch. With over 7,000 hours and nine years of service, I didn't hold my breath about being able to have it repaired, and sure enough, Phantom Marine in San Diego said the main circuit board was toast and that Raymarine no longer supported the R20XX series with parts. We replaced it with a 4kw, 48 mile Raymarine scanner and a C80 display terminal. As one would expect, nothing was similar, so we had to modify the backstay mount with an aluminum plate and Leg 2 expedition member Bill Chapman who is a cabinet maker brought his jig saw over and helped me modify our nav station panel. The great news is that our ST-50 series Sea-Talk instruments speak the same language so we didn't have to replace any other instruments. We will be fascinated to see how far the 48 mile radar actually picks up ships.

LAST SEMINAR OF THE YEAR WAS A SUCCESS!

BOAT SELECTION CONSULTATION BUSINESS VERY BUSY

We are currently consulting with four clients around the world, working to find the absolute best boats for their cruising plans. Our consultation service is simple, I work only for you, receiving no money or commissions from anyone other than you, my client. Payment is either $100 per hour, one hour minimum, or $300 for as long as it takes. Consolation is generally done by email, so I can reply even if we are at sea. Part of this service is recommending honest and knowledgeable brokers, surveyors and boatyards around the world. If you'd like to view our Boat Consultation Questionnaire, click here.
